The Changing Light

The light has begun to change again around here...and I love to follow it and see where it takes me. For this session we started indoors in the kitchen and then headed into the woods.

“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.”

Sunday Snapshot

Looking back I have no idea why it took me time to embrace who she is and that she wasn't frilly and pink and baby doll loving. Now I can't imagine her any other way....ever.

Love this girl to the moon and back and to the moon and back and to the moon and back {as she would say}....

Sunday Snapshot

After numerous trips to the tree farm in the past month, we finally got our tree yesterday. I adore this shot of Linhsey with her arms around Gene. Can you tell she loves her big brother? They carefully examined each tree in search of the one we would bring home.I of course had to get some shots of them together because really, how often does that happen?I love it when she goes into deep thought. I wonder what she is thinking here?

The tree made it home and was adorned with lights and candy canes. Today we'll put on the ornaments and hope for the best with 2 dogs and  a cat. Charlie is going to have a great time!

*These were all taken midday on an overcast day. I switched between my 50mm f/1.4 and 100mm f/2. They are all processed in Lightroom 4 using One Willow's Palette Collection presets.

Favorite Photo Friday

It seems I have missed the peak fall foliage. With Sandy coming I'm not sure what leaves will be left on the trees... Either way, I sure do love these fall shots of Linhsey today.

After the shoot was over she grabbed a leaf and as she tore it up she said " Look Mama! I ripped nature!"

My Sweet LiLi

My sweet, sweet L is struggling with questions friends are asking her at school. They want to know what happened to her lip. They want to know why she doesn't look like her parents. She is questioning the color of her skin and deciding she does not like it. I always try to teach L that everyone is different and to never ask someone something that could hurt their feelings or make them feel uncomfortable. I try to teach her to think about how it would make the other person feel. I told her it is her story and she can choose to tell the children that she does not want to talk about it. She said they keep asking and pushing her for answers. I told her she can tell them the truth or tell them it is private and personal. She said she is scared to talk about it. I don't even see her scar. I only see beauty when I look at her. Pure, innocent beauty.

The Light

The days are getting shorter and the light is shifting through my woods. I know so many photographers love the golden sun of summer, but it's the fall light that has my heart and eye. Last night when I went outside with Charlie I saw this beautiful light coming through the trees and I had to run back in and grab my camera to capture it. The strange thing is as beautiful as it was, I found even more beauty in it processed in black & white. But just so you can see it the way I did, here is the color version.

Favorite Photo Friday ~Cheer

Every night at cheer around 6:45pm now, the field is consumed by the most beautiful light. It doesn't stay long...but it engulfs everything and everyone. She said this was her 'hey don't take my picture face'.This was the group hug after they did such a great job learning their half time dance. And this? This must be their favorite part of the night. At the very end they play " Little Sally Walker"  and they absolutely love it. This was when Linhsey was chosen to sing " C'mon girl, shake that thing, shake that thing and STOP!"  Tomorrow afternoon is the first game! The girls will be in full uniform and sporting ruffle socks and pigtails to go along with the retro theme of the game.

Can't. Wait.

11 More Days....

And this beauty will be 6 years old.

The other night while tucking her into bed the conversation went as follows:

Me: Linhs, don't turn 6. Stay little!

Linhsey: Oh c'mon! If you plan to have a baby you gotta know they are going to grow up!"

Me: You do realize you are 5, right?

Linhsey- But I feel like I am 15!

And so it goes....11 more day until 16...I mean 6.

XOXO~
